Five teams to battle for top honours
Five teams Dhaka Army Club, Border Guard Bangladesh, Bangladesh Ansar, Teerandaj Sangsad and Quantum Sportium of Bandarban are expected to battle for the top honours in the 9th Teer National Archery Championship. The four day championship organised by Bangladesh Archery Federation (BAF) and sponsored by City Group will kick-off today at Archery Training Centre, Shaheed Ahasn Ullah Master Stadium in Gazipur. BAF general secretary Kazi Rajb Uddin Ahmed Chapal expressed his hope that a good number of prospective archers would be found from this meet to represent the country at international level. “You know Bangladesh archers have shown a positive results in a number of international competitions and have brought laurels for the country. Apart from them the federation want to create a number of international standard archers to make a big name in the game in the region, Asia as well as in the world meet,” He was speaking at a press conference at the NSC Tower in the capital on the eve of the championship. BAF vice-president Anisur Rahman Dipu and Rubaiet Ahmed, senior deputy brand manager of citygroup also spoke on the occasions. Rajib said that the BAF is staging the National Championship of 2017 this year as they were busy with holding the Asian Archery during the last quarter of last year in Dhaka. He hoped the national championship of 2018 will be held at the later stage of this year as it has already signed a five year deal with citigroup to sponsor the national team as well as national championship. “We will spend around Taka five lac for the championship this year. At the same time we have to continue our national training camp from the fund provided by the sponsor house.” Giving a detail of the championship he said about 150 archers drawn from 31 clubs or affiliated units. Replying to a question he said that five teams- Army, BGB, Ansar, Quantum and Teerandaj- are likely to vie for the overall championship trophy. Besides individual gold, silver and bronze medals, the BAF will also award trophies to top three teams on the basis of their collective result in the championship. Archers will fight for ten gold medals with five each in compound and recurve events. Rubaiet said that they received a good feedback from last year’s Asian Archery Championship. He hopes that his company will continue to give support for the development of archery also after the five year contract.
