The Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) 2018 is going to kick off today with a target of bagging Tk 500 crore worth of spot export order.

Commerce minister Tofail Ahmed said Bangladesh will try to focus on its branding through the DITF, in which a total of 43 business organization from 17 countries will take part.

The minister was addressing a press conference on the DITF premises at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital yesterday.

He said the USA, China, India, South Korea, Iran, Turkey, Nepal, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Iran, Pakistan, Hong Kong, Mauritius, Singapore, Sri Lanka and the Maldives were taking part in the fair to showcase their products.

According to the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), Bangladesh got a record Tk 243.44 crore worth of export orders in the DITF 2017.

In addition, businesses sold products worth Tk 113.53 crore in the 35-day long 22nd DITF.

Tofail Ahmed said the fair would try to build a bridge between the consumers and manufacturers and encourage the entrepreneurs of the country to produce quality products to export to foreign countries.

“The fair will not only ensure the quality of products but will also encourage industrialists to establish new industries and generate employment opportunities,” he added.

The commerce minister said the fair played an important role in the country’s economic development, giving businessmen the scope to expand their operations by introducing new products among the international community.

The Export Promotion Bureau and the ministry of commerce are jointly organizing the event.

This event would project Bangladesh’s quality exportable goods to the visitors from home and abroad. Local producer in the country’s remote rural areas, lacking the financial strength to participate in an international trade fair, will have the opportunity to display their products before buyers from abroad at this show.

Likewise, overseas participants would have the opportunity to display their products for the benefit of Bangladeshi consumers in an expanding domestic consumer goods market.

The foreign participants will also have the opportunity to display their state-of-the-art technology before local producers and exporters. Besides, the participants will be able to establish business contacts with the prospect of entering into subsequent business negotiations.

A total of 400 stalls, 112 pavilions, and 77 mini pavilions have been set up in the fair where business organizations will display their products.

During a visit to the fair ground, the correspondent found that the installation most of stalls and pavilion was yet to completed.

Member Secretary of DITF Avijit Chowdhury told The Independent, “For several years, the main gate of the Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) was being arranged on the basis of the Curzon Hall but this year we have prepared the design of the main gate of the fair by  resembling the design of Padma bridge.”
