Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director Jalal Younus on Tuesday said that English coach Richard Pybus  arrived here in Dhaka today (Tuesday) to hold discussion with the board to be the next head coach of the Bangladesh.

After the sudden resignation of the Chandika Hathurusingha, the post of the head coach remained vacant for the last three weeks.

The BCB started hunting for the new head coach of the Bangladesh cricket team ahead of their next back-to-back international assignments just after Chandika’ abrupt quit. The Tigers will play their next international games, a triangular series and a bilateral series, at their home turf in between January-February.

“Already we’ve started searching for the head coach of the Bangladesh team. As a part of it, we’ve prepared a short list of some coaches,” said Jalal Younus.

“Now we’re seeking the coaches, who are in our short list, will come here in Bangladesh and directly talk with the board and then inform us what are their terms and conditions alongside future planning for the Bangladesh team,” Younus told reporters.

“Therefore, we’ll take the final decision to permanently appoint a head coach for the Bangladesh team. For this, Richard Pybus is firstly coming here today evening,” he added.

Jalal also informed that Pybus will meet with the board officials after his arrival at 11:00am tomorrow (Wednesday) and then will go for discussing with him.

He said that they will also talk with some other coaches of our short-list. If they could give them time, they’ll then call them for the viva voce. But he is reluctant to reveal the names of the other coaches who have been enlisted in their short list.

“It’s not possible to disclose their names at this moment because all of them are engaged in different places. If they confirm that they will come to Bangladesh to discuss with the board, in that case, we’ll disclose their names,” the BCB director said.

“It would be better for us all to wait for them. Let Pybus come first. It’ll then be known who will come in the next,” he also said. The former fast bowler-turned-organiser said that they will finally appoint such a coach who could be taken challenges for the team.

“Now it’s difficult to get high profile coach. Richard Pybus is one of them. The rest of those, who are in the list, have good profile also,” he viewed.

“Our team has gradually come out at a height and now it took a place in the global stage. Those, who previously coached in Bangladesh, had a good contribution behind our success. So, we’re expecting such type of coach who could take challenge to move forward,” he said.

“We’ve considered Richard Pybus as he also coached the team likes of Pakistan and South Africa,” he added.
