Tanvir Mokammel’s ‘Simantorekha’ at Public Library again today

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Partition of Bengal, a new documentary film ‘Simantorekha’ (The Borderline) by Tanvir Mokammel will be screened today at Shawkat Osman Auditorium of the Central Public Library, Shahbag in the capital. ‘Simantorekha’ deals with all the social, political, economic and cultural aspects of the Partition of Bengal in 1947 and the tragedy and trauma it had created on both sides of the border. The film shot many different places of Bangladesh, especially in the border areas, and in Dhaka and Khulna. A major part of the shooting of the two-hour film also took place in India, mostly in the refugee camps like the Cooper's Refugee Camp, the Dubulia Camp and in Uttarpara's Bhadrokali Camp in West Bengal.

The film will be screened at 4:30 pm and 7:00 pm, while tickets will be available at the entrance of the venue. The film also screened yesterday at the same time at the same venue.

Filmmaker and writer Tanvir Mokammel was awarded the Ekushey Padak in 2017 while he won a total of nine Bangladesh National Film Awards for the films ‘Nodir Naam Modhumoti’ (1995), ‘Chitra Nodir Pare’ (1999) and ‘Lalsalu’ (2001). His last fiction was highly-acclaimed ‘Jibondhuli’ (The Drummer), a film in the backdrop of the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971.

He has made six full-length feature films and fourteen documentaries.

The film director Mokammel is now the director of Bangladesh Film Institute (BFI) and Bangladesh Film Centre (BFC).
