India implemented 24 projects in Bangladesh in 5 yrs: Envoy

UNB

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Harsh Vardhan Shringla yesterday said the Indian government has completed a total of 24 projects in Bangladesh, worth Tk 110 crore, over the last five years, reports UNB.

“India has undertaken several developmental projects in Bangladesh, which is one of the most valuable and significant facets of our relationship,” he said.

The High Commissioner was addressing the inauguration of 11 water treatment plants installed for the people of Bhandariya Pourasabha.

Environment and Forests Minister Anwar Hossain Manju attended the function as the chief guest.

Chairman, Zilla Parishad, Mohiuddin Maharaj, Deputy Commissioner of Pirojpur Khairul Alam Sheikh and Superintendent of Police Salam Kabir were present.

“We’re very proud that the water treatment plants will provide clean and sweet drinking water to 1.5 lakh people of Bhandariya and neighbouring pourasabhas,” Shringla said.

For this purpose, he said, the government of India is giving a direct cash grant of Tk 11.50 crore to Bhandaria Municipal Corporation.

In October 2017, an amount of Tk 2.20 crore was given to the Municipal Corporation so that the project work starts at the earliest.

Under the project, 11 deep tube-wells, each with an approximate depth of 600 feet, will be set up. A dedicated water treatment plant will also be set up at each tube-well site.

The treated water will be pumped to a large storage tank of 40,000 litres at each of the 11 sites.

Each water treatment plant will remove heavy metals, arsenic and salinity, thus making it potable. It is expected that the project will be completed in nine months.
