Holistic approach for welfare of challenged people stressed

RAJSHAHI: Speakers at a discussion yesterday said the challenged people need social support for their proper rehabilitation and family integration, reports BSS.

They viewed holistic and collective efforts of both the public and private organisations have become an urgent need for ensuring their fundamental rights which are keys to their social dignity.

Terming the challenged people as an integral part of the society, they put emphasis on mainstreaming them through creating a friendly atmosphere for the people with disabilities.

District Social Service office and District Administration jointly organised the discussion at Shishu Academy auditorium in observance of the International and the National Day of Persons with Disabilities yesterday.

Deputy Commissioner Helal Mahmud Sharif and Additional Director of Department of Social Service (DSS) Raoshan Akhter Chowdhury addressed the discussion as the chief and special guests respectively with Deputy Director of DSS Rashedul Kabir in the chair.

Member of National Disabled Welfare Council Mozammel Haque, Superintendent of Baya Orphanage Asaduzzaman Sarker and Executive Director of Protyasha Raju Ahmed also spoke.  The speakers said the people with special needs aren’t the burden of the society but wealth. They have to be built as worthy citizens. All quarters should come forward towards forging a social movement for welfare of those thereby overall developments of the society will be achieved. He urged wealthy people and other philanthropists to stand beside the people with special ability and also urged the challenged people to make them fit for the jobs for providing minimum services to the service- providers.
