HC orders marriage of two lovers

A High Court (HC) bench yesterday ordered the authorities concerned to arrange the marriage of two lovers -- Shariar Mahmud Shorav and a college girl -- within a month. The HC bench, comprising Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil, came up with the order after the representatives of the two parties appeared before the court as per its previous order. It was known from the case statements that Shorav was romantically involved with a college student in Joydevpur. The relation became physical after a while. Then, the girl asked Shorav to marry her. But Shorav paid no heed to her pleas. On October 19, the girl filed a case against Shorav under the Children and Prevention Act. Earlier, the police had arrested Shorav following the filing of the case. Shorav sought bail from the lower court, but the court rejected his bail petition. After that, Shorav filed a bail petition with the High Court (HC) seeking bail in the case.  After hearing from both sides,  the HC bench on November 22 asked both the parties to appear before the bench yesterday. The law enforcers produced Shorav before the court as per its earlier order. The HC bench took statements from both parties, including Shorav and the girl.

Later, the HC granted conditional bail to Shorav and asked to arrange the marriage of Shorav with the girl under Joydevpur thana in Gazipur district. The court also asked the assistant attorney general, Bashir Ahmed, to submit a compliance report in a month. The HC also fixed Tk. 700,000 as the marriage deed (Kabin nama) for the marriage. It also asked  Shorav not to inflict physical or mental torture on his to be wife or mental torturing on his wife.  If there is any allegation from the girl's side, the HC bench would cancel the bail of Shorav, it said.
