DRU gets new office bearers

Saiful Islam, the chief news editor of Boishakhi TV, and Syed Sukkur Ali Shuvo, a senior reporter of BSS, were elected president and general secretary of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) respectively yesterday for the 2018 term, reports UNB. Saiful bagged 607 votes while his nearest rival and Abudarda Zubair of ATN Bangla 343 votes. Shuvo got 502 votes defeating his office colleague Mursalin Nomani by a margin of 123 votes. Nomani had outplayed Shuvo in the 2017 election vying for the same post.

The other office-bearers are vice president Galman Shafi of Bangal Vision (unopposed) , joint secretary Moinuddin Khan of Naya Diganta, organising secretary Nurul Islam Hasib of bdnews24.com, finance secretary Manik Muntasir of Bangladesh Protidin (unopposed), office secretary Jehad Hossain Chowdhury of Somoynews, women affairs secretary Jharna Moni of Bhorer Kagoj, publicity and publication secretary Aminul Haque Bhuiyan, training and research secretary Mohsin Hossain, sports secretary Araft Daria, cultural secretary Mizan Chowdhury, entertainment secretary Kamaluddin Sumon of Sangram and welfare secretary Kawsar Azam of online portal thereport.

The seven members are Abdullah Al Kafi, Mahmuda Doly, Jannatul Ferdoud Panna, Jafar Iqbal, Abdul Hai Tuhin,Kamal Mosharaf and SMA Kalam.

The voting began at 9:00am at DRU's Segunbagicha office and continued until 5:00pm without any break. After the vote counting, election commissioner Monjurul Ahsan Bulbul announced the polls results. Forty candidates were there in the election race against 21 posts, but candidates in five posts were elected uncontested.
