NBR gets copyright of ‘Tax ID Card’

BSS

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has won the copyright of 'Tax ID Card', a creative innovation of the revenue authorities to honour taxpayers in the country, reports BSS. The copyright office of the Cultural Affairs Ministry granted the NBR the exclusive rights for use and distribution of this card. Secretary of Cultural Affairs Ministry Md Ibrahim Hossain Khan handed over the copyright certificate to NBR chairman Md Nojibur Rahman at the inaugural ceremony of National Income Tax Day 2017 held at the NBR's Kakrail office in the capital yesterday.

"Introduction of Tax ID Card is unique . . . there is no such card in any country of the world. It is an exclusive innovation of NBR," said the NBR chairman.

He thanked the Cultural Affairs Ministry and the copyright office for giving such recognition quickly. It is an indication that the country is advancing fast, he added.

Rahman said Bangladesh ambassadors were given this card during the recently concluded envoys' conference to introduce it at different parts of the country.

Renowned actor Hasan Imam was given 'Kar Bahadur' award at the programme. Hasan Imam thanked NBR for honouring him with 'Kar Bahadur' award and said it is very pleasing that the country which achieved freedom through liberation war is going to be self-reliant.

"I hope that all eligible people will pay tax . . . it is a good initiative to honour taxpayers and I think it will encourage people to pay tax," said the senior actor.

Speaking at the programme, drama personality Sara Zaker said she pays tax happily and the country is going ahead and it is the indicator that the people are paying tax. There was a culture of evading tax and the tax collection system was not developed properly, she added.

She suggested reducing the tax rate for lower middle income people. Actors Reaz, Amit Hasan, Mausumi, Omar Sani, Api Karim, Chanchal Chowdhury, Zahid Hasan and singer Rafiqul Islam, among others, participated the colourful rally that brought out from the NBR's Kakrail office making the National Income Tax Day-2017.
