Admission test of 7 DU affiliated

colleges begin today

The first-year honors admission tests of seven colleges affiliated with Dhaka University (DU) under academic session 2017- 2018 will begin today with the entry test of Arts and Social Science unit.

The one-hour examination will be held from 10 am to 11 am at 9 centers, said a DU press release on Wednesday.

A total of 23,704 admission seekers have applied against 16,900 seats under the Arts and Social science unit. The admission test of Science and Business unit will be held on December 8 (Friday) and 9 (Saturday) respectively.

The seven DU affiliated colleges are: Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Mohila College, Mirpur Government Bangla College and Government Titumir College. Detailed information of admission test is available on the university website -www.7college.du.ac.bd.

AAT qualification launched in Bangladesh

The British Council and ACE (AKS Khan Centre for Excellence) organised the launching seminar of the AAT qualifications, UK recently at the British Council premises.

AAT is the UK’s leading qualification and professional body for vocational accountants. Its range of qualifications is open to all regardless of previous qualifications or age, and includes the AAT accounting qualification, as well as bookkeeping and other finance qualifications.

Commenting on the announcement, Andrew Newton, deputy director of British Council said, “The globally renowned AAT qualifications being provided in Bangladesh would mean more members among the future leaders of Bangladesh will be able to attain these skills.”

The AKS Khan Centre for Excellence, based at Rupayan Prime, Dhanmondi 7, Dhaka will have room for up to 50 students to study for all levels of the AAT Accounting Qualification in addition to other AAT qualifications such as award in accounting software. Courses will be running from January, 2018.

Samanzar S Khan, chief executive officer of ACE said: “An AAT qualification is internationally recognised and we are pleased that ACE will now be offering its students the opportunity to take this significant step towards a career in professional finance”.

IU admission test begins today

The admission test for the first year honours courses at Islamic University (IU) in Kushtia under academic session 2017-18 will begin today which will continue till on December 5. A total of 36 candidates vie for each seat.

Sources of central admission committee said, a total of 87,000 admission seekers will vie for 2,436 seats including quota in the admission tests of first year honours courses under five faculties.

E and F units under Applied Science and Technology faculties will be held today, D units under Applied Science and Technology faculties will be held tomorrow, G and H units under Business Administration and Law faculties will be held on Sunday, A and B units under theology and Arts faculties will be held on Monday, C units under Social Science faculties will be held on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Electronic devices, including mobile phones and any other communication devices, are prohibited in the examination halls and a mobile court will set up on the campus for the first time to prevent forgery in the tests, IU Vice chancellor Professor Dr Harun-Ur-Rashid Askari confirmed The Independent Yesterday.

2nd convocation of Shanto Mariam University held

The 2nd Convocation of Shanto-Mariam University of Creative Technology was held at International Convention City Bashundhara, Purbachal Express Highway, Dhaka, on November 27, says a press release.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid was present at the convocation and UGC chairman Professor Abdul Mannan was also present.  Later certificates were handed over to students.   

In his speech Professor Abdul Manna said, `I'm really honoured as university invites me to attend the programme. Congratulating all graduated students he also said “It's a new journey started for you. I hope you all will be successful in your life to overcome all challenges.”

 2 DU students get ‘Director’s Award’

Two meritorious students of the Institute of Health Economics of Dhaka University (DU) have been awarded ‘Director's Award’ for securing the highest CGPA in their BSS (Honors) and MSS examinations respectively on Wednesday.

Awardees are- Muhammad Ihsan-Ul-Kabir (BSS) and Rezaul Azim (MSS), said a DU release.

DU Vice-chancellor Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman handed over this award to the brilliant students as the chief guest at Mozaffar Ahmed Chowdhury auditorium of the university. Director of the Institute of Health Economics of DU Prof Syed Abdul Hamid presided over the function while Prof Shamsuddin Ahmad and Prof Nahid AkhterJahan addressed it. VC Akhtaruzzaman urged the students to play pioneering role to make DU campus neat and clean as well as free from drugs. He also called upon the students to equip themselves with moral values to meet social needs.

'They have to be prepared as worthy citizen by utilizing their time properly', the VC added.
