A solo painting exhibition titled ‘The Skin of a Living Thought’ by artist Nargis Poly is set to begin tomorrow in La Galerie of Alliance Française de Dhaka (AFD) in the capital’s Dhanmondi area. The inaugural ceremony of the show will be held tomorrow at 6pm on the AFD premises.

Eminent artist Mustafa Manwar will be present at the opening ceremony as the chief guest. Eminent academic and writer Professor Dr Syed Monzoorul Islam will join the inaugural programme as the guest of honour while architect and urbanist Dr Adnan Morshed will also be present as the special guest.

Nargis Poly’s paintings bear in mind the conviction that the essence of a painting can vary greatly in colour and content from one viewer’s perspective to another’s. Poly wants to call it, “unfolding the skin of a living thought”. Her inquisitive mind explores diverse creative and intellectual avenues never retracting from experimenting in her own style.

Accordingly, the paintings avow Poly’s analytical mind as well as her artistic ethos. She never loses sight of the snowball effect of paintings pre-empting corruption and social injustice. And with a clear understanding of the surroundings, her subject choices along with the media selections become coherent to the observer.

The exhibition will remain open to all until August 16 and can be visited according to the following schedule: Monday to Thursday from 3:00pm to 9:00pm, Friday and Saturday (9:00am to12:00 noon and 5:00pm to 8:00pm). Closed -Sunday.

Where: AFD, 26 Mirpur Road

When: Inauguration: 6pm, tomorrow
