National hockey team leaves for China today

Bangladesh national hockey team will leave Dhaka for China today at 2:35pm to play eight preparation matches ahead of the Asia Cup Hockey.

The earlier programme of the Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) was to send the team in India and Malaysia for the preparation matches but they changed the plan and decided to play the preparation matches in China and then in India while the Malaysia tour was postponed.  

Bangladesh team, to play the preparation matches in China was comprised with 22 players and will play the preparation matches against different provincial teams while after return home on August 19, the schedule of India tour will be decided.

The 22-man squad for the preparation matches was formed from the 30 players preliminary team, which was in the national camp and the 18-man final squad will be finalised before the tournament.

Meanwhile, the host Bangladesh was drawn in the tough group in the Asia Cup with Asian powerhouses India, Pakistan and Japan are in Group A while South Korea, Malaysia, China and Oman are in the Group B.  

Asia Cup scheduled to take place in Dhaka from October 11 to 22 when Bangladesh will begin their campaign with taking on Pakistan in the day’s second match of the opening day.

China bound 22-players are – Mamunur Rahman Chayan, Asim Gope, Motiul Islam Koushik, Sarwar Hossain, Puskor Khisa Mimo. Russel Mahmud Jimi, Din Islam Emon, Abu Sayeed Nippon, Rezaul Karim, Babu, Farhad Hossain Shitul, Rumman Sarker, Mohammed Nayemuddin, Ashraful Islam, Milon Hossain, Khorshed Ur Rahman, Mohammed Arshad, Imran Hossain Pintu, Hassan Jubaer Niloy, Sohanur Rahman Sabuj, Mahbub Hossain, Fazle Hossain Rabbi, and Mohammed Mohsin.
