Free eye screening camp at Mirpur

A free eye screening camp was held in Mirpur of the capital yesterday.

Organised by Rights and Sight for Children (RSC) and TMSS Masuda Maternity Hospital, the goal of the eye screening camp was to identify underprivileged people needing eye surgery or eyeglasses but financially unable to seek treatment. More than 200 underprivileged people received free eye treatments from the camp. Patients diagnosed with cataract and refractive errors will be provided surgeries and eyeglasses free of cost.

The eye screening camp was held in memory of the late professor Dr Syed A. Wadud (renowned Bangladeshi ophthalmologist and goodwill ambassador/patron of Distressed Children & Infants International-DCI, USA). Naasik Syed, a volunteer for both DCI, USA and RSC and also the grandson of Dr Dr Syed A Wadud, helped in organising the eye camp and inaugurated the camp.

The event was attended by officials including Dr Muhammad Abdul Mazid, Chief Coordinator of the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh, Chairman of RSC (Former Secretary and Chairman, NBR); Ms. Salma Qadir-CEO of RSC and Coordinator of DCI, Bangladesh; Jamal Abdun Nasher-Programme Manager, RSC; Md. Abdul Quader- Deputy Executive Director of TMSS, Md. Ali Hossain- Finance Expert of TMSS, Shakil Bin Azad Romy- Deputy Director of TMSS, Ms. Fatema Khatun- Managing Director of TMSS Masuda Maternity Hospital, Ms. Samiha Yeasin Bintu- Area Manager (PRP) of TMSS and other officials of DCI, RSC and TMSS actively participated in the event.

Dr. Khurshid Zaman, Consultant, Department of Ophthalmology, BIHS General Hospital, Darus Salam, Mirpur, Dhaka, led the team providing treatment to the patients.

Ms. Salma Qadir expressed her gratitude to the participants for attending the event.
